Kingsport, TN asked in Uncategorized for Tennessee

Q: TN-- My driver's license was unjustly suspended after I did what I was asked to do. What can I do?

I was pulled over for speeding & didn't have a hard copy of my insurance on me. The cop didn't want to wait for me to pull it up on my phone. So he issued the ticket for speeding & no insurance. I ended up paying the ticket & submitting proof that I had insurance during that time. Yet I still got a letter saying my license was suspended & I needed to pay a reinstatement fee. I called & they said that they DID receive the proof of insurance, but that she couldn't do anything about the fee. That I'd have to either talk to her manager or pay the fee of $65. I said, "I'll do that" (meaning talk to the manager), but she hung up. I looked online & on there, it says I have to pay a fee of $140! That's all, there's nothing else to do, but PAY! It's all about money. They had NO RIGHT suspending my license to begin with! I don't feel that I should have to pay anything! They should just reinstate my license. I live in TN. What can I do?

A: You made the mistake of not carrying the insurance card, as the LEO needs a hard copy to take back to the cruiser and check you out. Then you paid the Citation instead of going to Court, which is pleading guilty. Now you will have to satisfy DOS to get your TNDL.
