Atlanta, GA asked in Child Support and Family Law for Georgia

Q: What is the deference between the "DOMESTIC RELATIONS FINANCIAL AFFIDAVIT" vs "Child Support Worksheet"?

I am in the process of filing a CS modification and wanted to know which will be used to calculate the child support amount.

A: The financial affidavit outlines your income, assets, debts and expenses. The child support worksheet is what will contain the child support amount. You will have to know what information to input and where in order for the worksheet to work the way it was intended.

A: First, I would urge you to hire an attorney and not represent yourself in this case, unless you are going through the Division of Child Support Services for this modification. A Domestic Relations Financial Affidavit is a document that outlines a parents income, expenses, assets and debts. You are to truthfully fill it out and file it in every case involving child support and serve it on the opposing party. A child support worksheet is used to calculate each parents monthly child support obligation. You state who is the custodial parent and the non-custodial parent. You then put the gross monthly income for each parent. There is a place for monthly expenses for childcare, extracurricular activities, other child support orders, other biological children who reside in your home, whom you support, health insurance you pay monthly, and other entries related to support. Once you have exchanged financial information a child support worksheet can be completed.
