Q: My husband and I are separated does he have to help me financially

A: If you have minor children and the children live with you, he has to support them. If you do not have children, it is not a given that he has to support you. That depends on what each party makes and the need for support. A divorce or separation case will have to be filed in order for you to get an order of support.

A: If you need any support from your spouse you have to file for divorce. Only then can you get a court order for him to pay spousal support, child support, utilities, or any expenses he was paying on a temporary basis, until such time as the court can make a final determination on those matters. But you can't force him to pay for anything until you get an order, and you can't get that without filing for divorce and having him served.
