Q: How can I resolve joint tenants sibling relationship with a quick claim deed which was left to us by our mother?
My mother passed and had a quick claim deed left for my brother and I. It states 1/2 of her interest was for me and the other 1/2 of her interest was for my brother. He has now moved out of state and feels does not have to continue to help on utilities since he is not living here. We are joint tenants. He wants a buy out. The building need repairs and he is not willing to help pay for them if I buy him out. The mortgage is minimal and still in my mother's name. What advise can you provide and how can this be straighten out? People has told me to take out a loan to buy my brother out and then have enough to fix the repairs. The options I see I have is to stay and absorb the repairs, buy out or move?
