Moultrie, GA asked in Family Law for Georgia

Q: Are there grandparents rights in Ga?

Our daughter and grand daughter have been living with us off and on for 5 yrs during this time when financially took care of their needs. She married a man and they continued to live with us. Seeing that the new husband was verbally abusive to our grand daughter we tried talking to our daughter about it. She got very defensive and they all moved out to his parents house and is refusing to let us see our grand daughter or new grand son. What rights do we have to be able to have contact with her again.

A: I am sorry that you are going through this. Your only option is to petition the court for grandparent's visitation rights.

A: I would speak directly with an attorney. Grandparents do have rights. But there is a very specific statute that sets forth the requirements to qualify for grandparents rights. If you meet the requirements under Actions by Grandparents or Other Family Members, I would consult an attorney to file the proper action on your behalf.
