A: Unfortunately it can be very difficult to find an attorney willing to take on a family law case pro bono or for free. However, here are some suggestions that may help:

- Contact local legal aid organizations in your area - they sometimes take select family law cases for free for low income individuals. Be sure to reach out as soon as possible.

- See if there are any family law clinics hosted by local law schools where students supervised by professors provide free representation. This can provide quality free legal help.

- Reach out to the bar association in your jurisdiction for referrals to lawyers willing to take limited pro bono cases. Let them know you cannot afford counsel.

- Ask the court clerk if they are aware of any volunteer attorney programs that could assist you with the custody case and upcoming hearing.

- See if you qualify for United Way programs or other non-profits providing free legal assistance for child custody cases.

- Look into applying for a litigation loan if you have repayment ability - this can help cover attorney fees.

I know it is difficult navigating the system without representation, but with persistence and creativity hopefully you can find free legal assistance. Wishing you the very best in securing custody of your daughter.
