Q: Can companies hide or delete accounts after someone dies?
My mom passed in 2021. She keeps receiving mail from fidelity investments about plan changes and important information. Nothing has account information on it and a search of her home found minimal information. I did find some account stubs from other companies but when I contacted them, they denied she had any funds in the accounts even though the records showed different. How do I find old accounts from past employers? How do I know companies are being truthful. I have already gone through probate and been listed as her only heir to her estate. What power do I have to make companies show her account info. Ex. Pension 401k stocks...?
