A: When you go into court the next time, you calmly ask the judge if you may address him on something very important that your attorney is not willing to say. Then when the judge allows you to do that, you then calmly ask to have a new attorney appointed BECAUSE "there has been a complete breakdown in the attorney client relationship for reasons that you cannot specifically tell the court because it involves issues relevant to your defense of this case". That should work.

A: Excellent advice by Mr. Carron. All too often, clients think lambasting the attorney to the judge - whether right, wrong, or otherwise - will help them. In most instances, it's harmful to the client.

Judges understand attorneys and clients are people, and not everyone gets along for a myriad of reasons. But judges also know - particularly in federal court - that those appointed attorneys are actually pretty good. Believe it or not, there is a pretty rigorous vetting process for attorneys to receive federal appointments. And when clients complain, judges are more apt to believe it's the client that is difficult to work with.

Ask for a new attorney but keep it calm and collected.
