Decatur, GA asked in Criminal Law and DUI / DWI for Georgia

Q: Can a first offense felony and a misdemeanor dui prevent me from possessing firearms or obtaining my WCL in Georgia?

Hi I am 21 years old now and I am curious to know whether or not I’m able to possess or buy any firearms since i was arrested for the first time and charged with a felony for possession of cannabis oil back in 2019 here in Georgia. It was my first offense ever so I was placed in the Pre Trial Diversion program and successfully completed it, so I was never convicted of that felony offense, and my record was set to restricted but fast forward 2 years later I get arrested for a misdemeanor DUI which was my first DUI and I pleaded guilty too. Everything has been settled now and back to normal. I don’t have any pending charges or warrants nor am I on probation but now I’m left off wondering since I’m technically not a felon convict will I still be able to purchase a firearm or obtain my WCL? I was able to vote in 2022 for the Georgia Gubernatorial election and I know if you’re a felon than you’re not eligible to vote since you do lose that right.
