Valdosta, GA asked in Divorce and Child Support for Georgia

Q: Our decree states we are to split medical/dental 50/50 that is not covered by insurance. He has not paid anything.

I am the custodial parent of our two children and our divorce was final in 2002. The decree states that my ex "has a major medical policy in effect for the children". They were never on any policy he had and I had them on Georgia Medicaid, and I never noticed that he claimed to have them on his policy. Our decree also states we are to split any medical/dental not covered by ins 50/50. There is no timeframe or anything else after that. My daughter has had to have a root canal that ins would not cover due to her age at that time, so I paid $1800 out of pocket. She had to also have a gum ablation that was not covered I paid for. She had to have braces twice and I paid that alone as well. He has made excuses for the last 10-15 YEARS. It was originally that he could not afford to help due to paying child support and would have to sell his truck. Then when he remarried he said he could not afford due to he and his wife going through IVF. I have still not received anything. We are in Georgia

A: My best advice is to get your money together to hire an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney you will have to take him back to court representing yourself.
