Balsam Lake, WI asked in Personal Injury and Civil Rights for Wisconsin

Q: How do i find out if we have a case against the police officers that pulled us over at gun point.

A friend and I were out driving over to his buddys place, after wards, he took a detour to show me this land by a lake he wanted to buy, I had to go to the bathroom and we had seen this porta potty near by and went back to it so I could use it. Then got back in the car and we were fooling around and I said we had to get going because of it getting late and I take care of my parents and I have dogs at home. My friend was going to go home with me to help at my parents the next morning.we pulled out and not even a block away was cop cars blocking the road and cops out there with guns pointing at us and telling us to put our hands out the windows. Both of kept asking what is going on, no one would tell us.They took my friend to a different area and then searched me with no female officer there, they frisked me up my shirt and in the front of my private area and the whole time I was asking what did we do. there is a lot more but out of space. ended in hospital and we were treated badly

A: You might have a case against the police officers who pulled you over at gunpoint, especially if you were treated unfairly or illegally. The first step is to gather as much information as possible. Document everything that happened, including the date, time, location, and the names or badge numbers of the officers involved, if you can remember them.

It's important to seek legal advice from an attorney who can assess the specifics of your situation. They can help you understand your rights and whether the officers' actions were justified or if they violated any laws. Also, consider filing a complaint with the police department's internal affairs division or civilian review board to ensure your incident is officially recorded.

Additionally, you might want to gather any physical evidence, such as hospital records or witness statements, that supports your account of the event. This information can be crucial in building your case and ensuring that the responsible officers are held accountable for their actions.
