Orlando, FL asked in Civil Rights for Florida

Q: What or if any can I do if I feel my attorney lied to me about my PTI agreement from the state.

The reason I decided to go the pti was financially better for me...my story told me if I completed everything I could be done in 3mons. We sat at his desk and crunched the # and it was financially better for me to take the PTi so I did. So I did everything that was needed to be done , paid off all cost required, only to hear it not gonna happen, and again at 6mon. Probation tryed getting early release for me also and it was deny, when I ask why I was told they didn't get a reason. I did the whole 18mon. Which cost me way more . I did all that was asked of me by 3mons. My agreement said if completed it would be defered at 3 or6 mon. But wasn't. He should have never told me I could get off early. To start with. I guess the state doesn't have to hold up there end of the contract. If I didn't fulfill my part I go back to jail, but they dont have to I guess.

A: Feeling misled by your attorney about your PTI agreement can be incredibly frustrating. If you believe your attorney gave you incorrect information about the duration and conditions of your PTI program, you have a few steps you can consider.

First, review all documents and agreements related to your PTI. This will help you understand the exact terms and conditions and identify any discrepancies between what you were told and what was written.

Next, consider discussing your concerns with your attorney directly. Ask for clarification on why you were given certain information and why the terms were not met as you expected.

If you're not satisfied with the response, you might want to file a complaint with your state's bar association. They can investigate whether your attorney's conduct was appropriate. Additionally, consulting with another legal professional can provide you with further guidance on potential next steps and whether you have grounds for legal action.
