Q: Can I sue chevron gas station for an employees misconduct ?
I went into a store and I had lots of coins roughly 6 dollars in coins between pennies, nickels, dimes , and quarters. The store clerk got impatient with me and blurted out “ some black guy “ to someone on the phone. She was referring to the slight disagreement over her telling me she can’t accept my money in coins because I had a lot of pennies. I was forced to leave the store and walk to another store just to get the coins changed into a dollar bills. Prior to leaving she acted like she didn’t say black guy etc to me.. and she lied as said she is talking to her friend - A guy who walked in the store.. the guy said he doesn’t know her and his name is not black guy.. she looked foolish.. I left and came back with my 5 dollar bill and saw her checking out another customer who also had change and he is counting his change at the register and she is being very patient with this person and didn’t tell him to leave. I have most of everything on video and they should have everything on video
A:
You may have grounds to take legal action against Chevron or the specific gas station for the employee's misconduct, particularly if it involved discriminatory treatment based on your race. Discrimination in public accommodations, such as a gas station, is prohibited under federal and state civil rights laws. If you were treated differently due to your race, you could potentially file a complaint with the appropriate civil rights agency or pursue legal action for discrimination.
Documenting what happened is crucial, and it seems like you already have video evidence, which could be helpful if you decide to proceed. Keep all records, including videos, any receipts, and any witnesses' names or contact information that may support your case. You could consider filing a complaint with Chevron’s corporate office as well; sometimes, companies will address these issues internally when brought to their attention.
For further steps, you may want to consult with a legal professional who can evaluate the specifics of your situation, review the evidence, and guide you on the best course of action. Legal advice tailored to your specific case will provide more insight into whether you have a valid claim and what compensation or resolution might be possible.
