A: The executor of an estate is generally entitled to compensation for their services. The amount of compensation is typically outlined in the will. If the will does not specify compensation, Georgia law allows the executor to receive a commission based on a percentage of the value of the estate's assets and income. This can include 2.5% of all amounts received and 2.5% of all amounts paid out by the executor, 10% of interest earned, and 3% of the value of non-cash assets that are transferred like real estate. Executors can also seek additional compensation if their duties are particularly complex or time-consuming.
