Albuquerque, NM asked in Employment Law, Civil Rights and Employment Discrimination for New Mexico

Q: I’ve been subversively targeted by line management with no communication of concerns or complaints, call a lawyer or HR?

Since May I have been concerned for being targeted by line management in an effort to subversively remove me from my project. I contacted management above line regarding the concern immediately. Only one email was ever sent by line manager to request anything of me. I declined some requests as it was information I had previously asked the intended audience if they had wanted and they had not, but offered to provide any information that he needed if he would come and discuss with me what he was looking for. I also stated why I had concerns about another action. Line manager replied, copying upper management that I had already talked to, asking why I was pushing back so hard not to do what was asked. I replied and sent upper management my reply as well as a reiteration of my targeting concern. A short time later, while I was on work travel, line management gathered multiple people from our work group, defamed me and subversively took over my project. Still no communication to me for why

A: It sounds like you're in a challenging situation where you feel unfairly targeted by your line management without any clear communication or justification. You've taken some good initial steps by reaching out to upper management to express your concerns and document what's been happening. However, if these actions have not led to a resolution or at least a formal discussion, it may be time to take further steps.

You might consider contacting HR to formally document your concerns. HR is responsible for ensuring a fair and safe work environment, and they should investigate any claims of harassment, unfair treatment, or defamation. Be sure to provide them with all the documentation you have, including emails and details of the incidents, to build a clear case.

Alternatively, if you feel that the situation is escalating or if HR is not responding appropriately, reaching out to an employment lawyer could be a wise move. A lawyer can provide you with legal advice tailored to your specific situation and help you understand your rights and options moving forward. Taking legal action may be necessary if you believe your work environment has become hostile or if your professional reputation is at stake.
