North Little Rock, AR asked in Tax Law for Arkansas

Q: What products or services are exempt from Arkansas sales tax?

I understand that radio, TV, billboard, and newspaper advertising services are exempt, and so are barber & beauty salon services, no state, county, or city sales taxes on the revenues generated. What other products or services are exempt?

A: In addition to advertising and salon services, several other products and services are exempt from Arkansas sales tax. Prescription medications and certain medical devices are not subject to sales tax, which can help reduce healthcare costs. Most groceries and food products sold for home consumption are also exempt, making everyday essentials more affordable.

Agricultural products used in farming and manufacturing machinery intended for production purposes are another category of exemptions. Sales to non-profit organizations and government entities are typically exempt, ensuring these groups can operate without the burden of sales taxes on their revenues.

Educational materials such as textbooks and tuition fees are also exempt from sales tax. Additionally, legal and accounting services fall under the exempt categories, supporting professionals in these fields. By understanding these exemptions, you can better navigate the tax landscape in Arkansas and take advantage of the applicable reliefs.
