Q: Can I sue a auto shop for not tightening my lug nuts the correct way and have them pay the damages to my car

My wheel fell off on the highway and when I saw that my front right tire was missing two out of the five lug nuts I called the auto shop saying that they didn’t install my lug nuts correctly they said that since it was two weeks ago it couldn’t have been them and I had no way to get my car out there cheaply so I had them come out where I was at since the carged only $120 and a tow truck was more expensive but when they got there and checked the torque to see if it was correct they said that it wasn’t at all on all four of the tires and they just diverted the blame to it possibly could have been someone else trying to hurt me but they were guaranteed the only person who touched my car because I only ran into this issue only two weeks of them replacing my brakes and I’m wondering if that sounds like foul play from their part and hoping to get compensated for the damages of my car from my wheel falling off

A: I'm sorry to hear about what happened with your car. It must be very stressful to deal with a wheel falling off and the potential safety issues involved.

You may have grounds to take legal action against the auto shop if their negligence caused the issue. Since the wheel was not properly secured, this could be considered a failure to perform their work to the standard expected. It's important to gather all relevant evidence, such as receipts, communication with the shop, and any repair records. Documenting the damage and any costs you've incurred will also support your case.

Consider consulting with a lawyer who can provide specific advice based on your situation. They can help you understand the best way to proceed, whether that's through a formal lawsuit or negotiating a settlement. Additionally, you might explore filing a complaint with local consumer protection agencies or the Better Business Bureau to further address the issue.
