Q: Paid full for Invisalign, moved abroad mid-treatment. Incomplete records, no trays provided. Can I seek compensation?
I started my treatment in 2020, paying $8700 for the entire process. After my first doctor fell ill and left, a second doctor took over. I transitioned to Invisalign in 2023, due to nickel allergies. In June 2024, I informed the new doctor that I was moving abroad. We discussed continuing my Invisalign trays for a few more months. However, during my final visit in July, after taking pictures, the office did not scan for new trays, I offered to pay for shipping When I asked, they said the doctor couldn’t treat me internationally, which I understand.
My concern is about patient rights, as Invisalign treatment typically includes a detailed plan for teeth movement. The doctor stated: "Before moving, my goal was to spend the next series or two of aligners (~6 months) to finish, improve the overbite, and close spaces. I recommend continuing Invisalign to achieve these goals." If this was his stated plan, wasn’t it his duty to provide the necessary aligners or arrange a smooth transition?
A:
I'm sorry to hear about the challenges you're facing with your Invisalign treatment. Since you paid for the entire process but didn’t receive all the necessary trays, you may have grounds to seek compensation.
First, review your treatment agreement to understand the obligations of the dental office regarding continuation of care, especially in cases of relocation. Gather all your records and communications with the office to support your claim.
Consider contacting a local consumer protection agency or consulting with a legal professional to explore your options. Additionally, reaching out to Invisalign directly might help facilitate a resolution. Ensuring you have all documentation will strengthen your case and help you pursue the compensation you deserve.
