Q: If I want to remain at an organization but get severance, what harm could a demand letter do?
I was hired remotely and have been for two years. Recently my organization demanded my role and upwards of 3k employees to relocate to their headquarters city or leave the university. There have been two meetings with the same information provided and two writings. I found a position internally that was an $80k or so pay decrease. This was after more than four times me trying to apply and interviewing for higher paying positions advertised as remote but prefer was given to those at HQ. In the only written comm. it does say two options stay and relocate or leave and get severance regarding the position I was in. I accepted an internal position after this comm due to a timeline of me needing to make a decision quickly and maintain financial stability for my family. I have a demand letter drafted from a lawyer; however do employers take these seriously? I want to demand severance for my position because I vacated my position. But I want to remain employed.
