Lawrence, KS asked in Animal / Dog Law for Kansas

Q: My dogs killed a cat and the owner wants to euthanize them both. Can she and what can I do to prevent it?

I have a fenced property but a lot of people going in and out of my house and they escape every now and then we have a gps collar on so we can find them immediately. The dogs are middle aged for dogs and they don’t deserve euthanasia. They aren’t dangerous to people just tiny animals, we have offered to rehome them in the country where they can’t get to them any more but they weren’t satisfied. We also paid for the cat and the cremation. I completely understand if I get sued for some money I just think it’s extremely unfair to ask for euthanasia when rehoming is an option. I completely understand loosing a pet is terrible, but the crime is on me not securing them properly. I just want to know if success is a likely outcome and the court will euthanize my dogs.
