Q: If I am trying to get mail logs from a jail and I have POA do i have the authority to sign for them?
I have a current and valid POA. It specifically states that it is to cover everything . My fiance and I have had trouble with the mail taking forever to get to him but not his to get to me. I confirmed it was not due to the post office. In TN they have 24 hours from the time they receive mail to get it to the inmate(excluding weekends and holidays). We have waited weeks so we requested his mail records. The CO made the records substantially larger therefore cutting some of the info off. She refuses to give me a copy that is not altered or edited. He signed to have them put in his property and signed for them to be released to me. What can I do to get those records and do they have to let me sign for them since I am his POA? Also, she didn't reszie or alter the logs of the outgoing mail but did the logs for the incoming mail. Does the jail have to honor the POA like everywhere else? What do I do if they won't and what do I do if they refuse to give me a copy that isn't altered?
