Q: Do I have any other options outside of filing an appeal to expedite the process of reunification with my daughter?
I am looking for help with a child custody/guardianship case that technically has closed in May of 2024, however an appeal has been filed so there will be an upcoming court date. I am looking for advice on what steps to take and how I can expedite this process, as the appeal is not progressing.
My mother has guardianship of my 6 year old daughter, and has taken my daughter outside of the country to Nicaragua. She has violated visitation orders and misinformed the judge of her intentions during the trial. I haven't wanted to file a motion to reconsider and to ask the judge to terminate the guardianship because I was advised by my (court appointed) attorney that there was a chance my daughter would end up in foster care and not with me. I was ordered to maintain employment and housing for at least one year before unification can even be considered, among other things. This is what I have appealed, however, I am wondering what else I can do about this situation.
Thank you.
