A: Alimony depends on a variety of factors. Not only your need for it, but the other party's ability to pay. Consult with an attorney who can review your finances and history and give you tailored advice.

A: I'm unsure how someone can sell half a house, so my first piece of advice would be to speak with a lawyer. As far as spousal support, if you do not come to an agreement on alimony, the court will decide. And a judge will listen to all testimony and review all evidence in order to determine your need, the other's ability to pay, and whether they are going to award support, period or lump sum, and how much, if any. But if you are seeking spousal support, I would make sure I was represented by an attorney who can present my case properly. Because if you obtain a final order that does not include spousal support, you won't get another chance to obtain that, it will be final.
