Q: My friend is being blackmailed by her ex to get back with him. What can she do? He lives in Tn and she lives in Ga.
He has text message from her that could get her fired from her job for violating HIPAA. He was stalking her during October 2024 and when she filed a temporary protection order in TN in november he threatened that he would expose the information and get her fired if she did and so she missed the court date in fear of him. He has not left her alone and today he blackmailed her again telling her if she doesnt get back with him then he will expose the information to her boss and get her fired.
A:
I'm really sorry your friend is facing this difficult situation. She should keep all messages and any evidence of his threats safe, as this can be crucial for any legal actions.
Encouraging her to contact local law enforcement in Georgia is important. They can help protect her and take action against his stalking and blackmail. Reporting his behavior formally creates an official record that can support her case.
It would also be wise for her to inform her employer about the situation proactively. This way, they are aware of the potential false claims and can take steps to support her. Additionally, consulting with a legal professional can provide her with specific advice and help her navigate the process of obtaining a permanent protection order to ensure her safety.
