Q: The police seized my phone and computer. Is there any way I can speed up the process of getting my stuff back?
I overdosed on pills and my roommate found me and called 911. When the police arrived, my roommate told them I acquired the pills online. They searched my room and seized my computer, all my accessories, and my phone. The sheriff called me asking for the passwords to the devices but I declined to give out that information. He said it would only speed up the process. According to him he was certainly going to get a warrant to get into my devices. This was about a week ago. He said he also found some items such as a scale and empty gelatin capsules. I asked if he was investigating me for distribution and he said it was an open investigation. I was wondering if there was any way a lawyer could help me get my property back sooner.
A: Potentially yes. There may likely be a few options depending on your situation. You need to speak with a criminal defense attorney about your best options.
