Q: I was denied a firearm purchase because of unpaid traffic fines in Georgia. Does that sound right?(No felonies)
I tried buying a firearm in Knoxville, TN and I was denied because of unpaid Traffic fines in the State of Georgia.
I've never had a felony and ive always been a pretty law abiding citizen. Am I being cheated out of my rights because im ignorant of the law?
A: Apparently your NCIC is bad. Hire an attorney to file the General Sessions suit against the State for denying you the purchase. But you better check on your own record carefully first and contact the respective Court Clerks in GA.
A:
I understand how upsetting it can be to face a denial when you feel you’ve done nothing wrong. It appears that unresolved issues from your unpaid traffic fines may have been flagged during the background check process.
Even without a felony, some jurisdictions treat outstanding legal obligations—like unpaid fines or related court orders—as factors that can affect your eligibility to purchase a firearm. The system checks for any active legal matters that might indicate you have unresolved responsibilities, and this can vary by state.
It might help to review your record to see if those fines have led to any additional legal actions. Once you have a clear picture of your status, you can work on resolving any outstanding issues so that future background checks may not flag your record.
