Q: Can my job fire me for not having a driver’s license?

Can my job fire me for not having a driver’s license?

For context, I have worked with this company for 5 years and have NEVER had a driver’s license. I was hired with a state ID and still have a valid state ID. My job does not require any type of driving (I sit behind a desk all day) and my work contract does not state I have to have a license.

Every 5 years my work requires employees to go for fingerprinting and background check. To do this we have to send in a copy of our ID. I sent a copy of my state ID and they immediately messaged me back asking if I had a valid drivers license. When I said no they said they were going to have schedule a meeting with my supervisor because it’s not allowed.

I have severe anxiety and panic attacks when driving and in cars (prescribed medication for it) and explained this to them. Now I am worried I am losing my job because of something that isn’t even necessary to perform my job.

If they do try to fire me is there any action I can take?
