Hyattsville, MD asked in Consumer Law, Contracts, Business Law and Civil Litigation for Virginia

Q: What are our options as a small business when a lawyer states our previous client wants to sue under consumer protection

We are a new business & provided a potential client, Sara w/a quote to rebuild deck, railing & stairs which she negotiated in her closing cost buying the home. The realty/ law firm wrote us a check, based off quote for labor/materials. All materials delivered to her house & were 85 % done building it, when she stated shedidn't like the stairs where/how they were placed, even though that is exactly what she agreed to during a phone conversation before starting them. She said she didnt want us to finish & if we stepped on her property she will call the law.We never had a contract written, as she hurried the process to meet her deadline of closing&was never present.Asked her numerous times to explain how she wanted things, what can we do to satisfy her&finish the job.4 mos later her lawyer calls saying he has to pull out the big guns' on this bc their kids went to school together. She is insisting for a full refund if we do not provide it, the lawyer states we will be sued for3x amnt for 28k.
