Lake Villa, IL asked in Family Law for Illinois

Q: My brother died in March, his ex wants to sue me, she wants his ashes for their son & all his possessions.

My nephew cut my brother off his life accusing him of pedophile 3 years ago and they did not talk or seen each other for that time. My brother wanted to give up his parental rights because of the way his son treated him. My nephew's mom and grandma want to sue me to take my brothers ashes and all his possessions but he did not have anything of value but some arms. Even there is no documents from my brother stating I am next of kin, he is my brother (he committed suicide). Can I loss my brothers ashes to them? I had given my nephew most of my brother's clothes, his rings and watches, shoes, colognes. After few weeks that he picked all that up, he sent me a text asking for everything. I told him that I can't give him his arms, knifes, dishes and asked what he really wanted. He said all the jewelry, watches, and everything of monetary value. His is coming on Saturday to pick up the rest of my brother's clothes. I don't want to loss his ashes! I had donated most of his belongings. Help!!!
