Des Moines, IA asked in Gov & Administrative Law for Iowa

Q: how can i be charged with violating a pfa that expired a year ago in an entirely different state where it was enacted?

My ex in Pennsylvania placed a PFA order on me in December 2021 for a disagreement that resulted in the usual of telling me I wont ever see my son again and lying to the court to get a pfa. The pfa lasted for 18 months, beginning in December 2021. I respected the PFA and did not contact her. It ended back in June 2023. She has been hiding my son from me since 2021 to avoid any way of me serving her custody papers. a week ago I finally found what i thought was my son's mothers phone number. I texted it sent a text telling her ive found her and to start working on custody agreements and such via text. I made no threats twords her or anything of the sort but reguardless nobody ever responded to my texts. so I assumed the number I found wasn't hers. Today, I received a knock on my door with paperwork for violating a PFA in Mississippi (??). It's May 1st, 2024, and the pfa has been expired since 2023. It was in Pennsylvania. My ex only moved to Mississippi a few weeks ago.
