Sanbornville, NH asked in Business Law for Maine

Q: A Contractor is billing me for additional travel and work time because a part they had was on backorder

We had a transfer switch, interlock kit installed at our home. The project was supposed to start and be completed in September 2023. The crew came out and started the work, then told me they were leaving because a part was on backorder and they would have to come back. They came back in November to finish the job and charged me for having to come back out. They did not inform me the part was on backorder until they were ready to leave the first day. No one reached out to advise there was a backorder on the part and was not given a choice to just delay the install all together. The owner is charging for the second trip. This was a contractor based in Maine and I am located in New hampshire. Their billing indicates they charge per/man per/hour and a % over on all parts used. nothing is stated about travel time in the original quote or contract.
