Q: After 18years of Marriage my husband wants a divorce we have 1 child & a house what kind of leg do i stand on

In NYS, you would be entitled to child support. You might be able to get spousal support ( alimony), depending on your own work and educational situation.

NYS is an equitable distribution state, meaning the split doesn't have to be 50-50. Look at what you acquired during marriage: houses, savings, debt, pensions.

Just remember: you are married to him, not the house. Don't fight for it unless you yourself can afford it.

And even under the new no fault divorce in NYS, you and your husband will have to come to an agreement on how to separate your affairs. Consider mediation. It is cheaper and, imy opinion, a more staisfying way to part company.
