Why would a Pension plan foreclose on a steel erector wouldn't they just sue for back benefits

A: it sounds as though a steel erector didn't pay the benefits due to the union. (you are probably a member of local 1) usually it is a suit for money damages. forclosure means that the union must have secured the indebtness of the erector by a note and lien on some real estate the erector owned. i am just guessing but it sounds like the erector has been a problem for a while and the union was sharp enough to secure his indebteness with a lien or mortgage on property. the erector is probably uncollectable and so the union is trying to recoup what it can.
