Newark, DE asked in Consumer Law for Delaware

Q: Will my ex filing bankruptcy affect my credit score?

My ex fiance and I purchased a house together in Delaware and both our names are on the mortgage and deed. I pay the mortgage and have always. Over 2 years ago, he abandoned the house and moved out of state. He filed for bankruptcy in Arizona. I found out when I went to make the mortgage payment and the mortgage company notified me of his bankruptcy. Can this affect my credit score if I've been making the payments timely? How will his filing affect me?

A: This is more of a bankruptcy question than a consumer law question, and I am not an expert in bankruptcy. However, it is my opinon that s long as you make the payments on time, his filing for bankruptcy protection will not affect your credit score.
