Q: What is the time limit to fix the heat in a unit?

My heat functions sometimes, however other times it blows out cold air unless I turn it up to 80. This is becoming a daily occurrence now. This is a problem for me medically not to mention what it's going to do to my bill. I am being told that they first have to get it okayed by the "company that pays the bills" before they can even have a contractor look at it. So, is that crap, and what can I do? I thought heat was one of those things that was considered an emergency and had to be fixed/looked at immediately not when someone decided to get around to it. I am in an apartment converted from an old house into three units; I am not a complex. Does that change the rules? And can I get the landlord to cover the difference between my normal electric bill and the one I will have now because of the heat issue? (And sorry for the double post. This question ended up in Construction Law even though I selected Landlord-Tenant.)

A: A landlord who fails to provide heat has 48 hours after the tenant provides written notice.
