Q: If I have a neighbor who has admitted her dog is vicious and will kill other animals and attack humans if they are on he
her property either intentionally or non, what are my rights in the state of Alabama?
A: In Alabama "every dog gets one bite." But, if the crazy lady next door knows that her dog bites or has 'dangerous propensities' she might be liable for injuries caused by the dog. Obviously she needs to keep the dog on her own property. But she also needs to warn potential trespassers that the dog bites like by putting up a sign or something. Also, Alabama has a special law to protect the mailman or the meter reader or, for that matter, anybody she invites onto the property from being bitten. What can you do now? Your city or town might have a vicious dog law, or a leash law that might help you. Contact your local police department and ask to speak with the animal control officer.
