Q: Is the below medical malpractice?
My 4 month old fell down in a stroller, but was locked in so her head never hit the ground. Although my baby daughter appeared fine, the ER doctor ordered a CT scan just to make sure there was no internal bleeding. There was no internal bleeding, but I fear that the CT scan mutated one or more of my baby's cells. I know having too many CT scans can be an issue, but I am worried that having this one CT scan did harm to her brain cells, which God forbid may become cancer? She was given a 120 kvp dose, which is usually given to adults. Children are supposed to get on 80 kvp.
A: I don't think you have a medical malpractice case. Your daughter's injury, thankfully, is extremely unlikely to cause real harm. Even if your daughter eventually got cancer -- which is extremely unlikely -- no expert could link a single CT scan back to cancer.
