my husband does from getting kicked in the head by a cow. They want me to pay 500. down and 250. per month but if I do that I will have no money for my meds. What can I do. They won't budge. I am on oxygen and use a lot of meds and have no insurance. I take care of my husband whose has dementia. Please advise me what I can do or where I can go to get help. I live in Polk City Florida.
A:
You should call some legal aid societies or attorneys willing to work your case Pro Bono.
Unfortunately they won't budge because you are likely dealing with an individual who doesn't have authority to accept anything other than what they offered. However, you can try to send them a financial affidavit showing your inability to pay, and mention that if you are forced to you will have to file for bankruptcy. That might get them to negotiate a little nicer. Otherwise I've seen credit card companies accept shockingly low monthly payments at mediation.
