Salisbury, MD asked in Bankruptcy for Maryland

Q: landlord filed for judgment in my case for $500 on oct 1. After receiving the judgment I filed for bankruptcy on oct 15.

landlord filed for judgment in my case for $500 on oct 1. After receiving the judgment I filed for bankruptcy on oct 15. On Nov 3 there was a motion that was filed and the case was heard again. The judge amended the amount due for the judgment from Oct 1 to $1000. The $1000 amount includes Nov rent which became due AFTER the bankruptcy was filed. I argued that no judgement should be entered on Nov 3 because bankruptcy was filed on Oct 15th and it was now nov 3 and I had a right to an automatic stay. THe landlord argued since the original judgment was done on Oct 1 before the bankruptcy he could amend it. Please explain and provide any laws that would assist me in this. I still believe that he could not amend the judgment to include Nov rent because the bankruptcy was filed before nov rent came due and it is just like filing a new case while my automatic stay is in place.

A: Did you file your own bankruptcy case? If not then you need to have your bankruptcy attorney handle this issue. If you did file your own case you are now seeing why is it usually not a good idea to represent yourself.
