Q: How much should a starting music producer like myself charge? Should I charge even though I don't own my own studio?

There is a guy telling me that I shouldn't charge for my productions anymore and that I need to stop charging. He says that I can't charge his friend ($250 for 2 productions) because I'm not established enough. I've been producing for awhile now (8 years) and have been producing for the Grammy Museum even though they pay me 3k to come down for 2 months every summer. This is freelance work for me outside of them. But this man claims he's been in the industry for long and says that producers give their beats up for free and just take royalties. He says I shouldn't charge his friend ( who is a female singer) because I don't own my own studio. Is that true?

A: This isn't really a legal question. If someone is willing to pay you for your time it is up to you if you want to accept it or not.
