Irvine, CA asked in Social Security for California

Q: SSA DDS approved my disability application, but with a different significantly later date for disability start.

In their letter, they stated that I became disabled "under their rules" on YY. This date YY is more than one year after I actually became disabled. How do I find out how they determined this disability start date? Do I have a right to call them and ask about their rules for this determination? Or, Do I need to appeal for reconsideration?

A: Seek for opinions from an experienced social security attorney. Good luck. www.aba-us.com

A: This happens frequently. On the positive side, it sounds as though you were approved without having to wait for a hearing. However, Social Security frequently changes what you said was the date on which you became disabled, usually because they do not believe that there is adequate medical evidence to support an earlier date. You absolutely have the right to call them and ask, as well as to appeal for reconsideration. But if you choose to call, be sure not to let your appeal deadline go by, as your call will not extend the time available to you.
