Q: I cheated on my wife and she is divorcing me. She wants alimony plus half of my retirement and of 401k is this legal?
Married for 28 years. Wife not working. Kids grown up out of state.
A: All the things you state may be awarded in a divorce. Many factors go into the final decision of property, alimony, and support awards. You do not state whether the children and your wife live in Connecticut at this time. It is likely Connecticut will not have jurisdiction over your divorce if only you live in Connecticut. However your wife can get a decree in another state that she can get upheld in Connecticut. Whenever you deal with multi-state jurisdiction you should consult in person with and retain an experienced attorney. The legal issues that arise are too complicated for a layperson.
