Asked in Car Accidents for North Carolina

Q: I was involved in accident in Alabama, I am living in North Carolina with Florida D.L. Where should I hire attorney?

I was involved in an accident in Alabama (tractor trailer involved) in May. I was traveling to North Carolina (where I mostly reside) but my license/registration/insurance is from Florida. Can I still hire an attorney here in North Carolina? Or do I need to hire an attorney in Florida? Also, one of the passengers in the vehicle was in the United States with a visitor visa, can I handle his claim for him or does any family member have the right to claim it? I am the primary person responsible for him right now.

A: If a lawsuit is filed, it will likely have to filed in Alabama. You can hire an Alabama lawyer, or a non-Alabama lawyer licensed in Alabama, or a non-Alabama lawyer who would have to co-counsel with an Alabama lawyer.
