Q: Is it legal to leave a parrot in your car in PA?
I stopped in a thrift shop/auction and a woman blared out in a room of people, "Whoever left a parrot in their car needs to bring it in or we will call the police." My wife and I were mortified. Then someone followed us to the car and reached into the car to touch the parrot. If there is no such law (and I don't believe there is in PA), then I feel I was bullied, slandered, and my property was violated. Do I have a case?
A: No. You don't have a case for slander. The woman didn't say anything that was untrue (Assuming it was hot in the car as to make the bird uncomfortable and perhaps in danger. Note: she didn't say that you had committed a crime. Thus truth is a defense to an action for slander; she didn't say anything untrue.) If animal cruelty isn't a crime in Pennsylvania, there may be local laws which would apply.
