Jackson, NJ asked in Bankruptcy and Collections for New Jersey

Q: Filled bankruptcy due to comm lease suit and was discharged but default judgement was entered after discharge.

Due to a failed business, I had to vacate commercial space premises hence breaking lease. Landlord filled suit as expected and I proceeded to file chap7. Got a discharge , but 6 months after discharge, I received court papers that a default judgement has been entered against me and the business concerning this debt. Not concerned about business but why am I still being held responsible for debt after discharge

A: If you were represented by a Bankruptcy attorney, you should contact the attorney about this. If not, you can retain an experienced Bankruptcy attorney to write a letter to the creditor, which should end the problem. Good luck.
