Q: Can my landlord change the terms of my rental agreement without providing me notice and without my consent?
I signed a lease agreement that had information regarding parking in it.
Since then, my landlord has changed some of these rules. My landlord insists I come to the office, provide a photo ID, and sign a document in order to receive the information regarding the changes they made. My landlord insists on enforcing these new rules whether or not I have picked up the information.
Are they legally allowed to do this?
A: A better question is whether they can evict you for not abiding by the changes. They only could do so if the original lease gave them the ability to make such unilateral changes. I suggest that you get the changed rules so that you will know what they are. If they are something that they don't affect you, you should have no problem with them. But refuse to sign the receipt if it indicates in any way that you are agreeing to the changes.
