Q: Can we force parental rights be terminated due to non-payment in exchange to adopt the children?
I have custody of my 3 nephews and niece for the last 4 years. The children's ages now are 3yr, 4yr, and 5yr. I was ordered $250 a month in child support. i have received a check one time for $800, 3 1/2 years ago, due to them thinking they will be able to keep the custody case open longer. We have orders to do a 1 hour visitation (supervised) a week. which the mother will go a few months to a year without seeing them and the bio father see them weekly(not good visits at all). We would love to adopt the children, and are wondering if we could get their rights terminated for non-payment. Exchange for them not having to pay the back support. And don't have a clue to where to start. We don't have any money to be able to pay a lawyer upfront. Also since both of the bio parents are now separated and both working , would the support payments go up and be divided between the 2 of them?
