Asked in Animal / Dog Law for Florida

Q: Can the breeder that sold me my extremely sick puppy pay the vet bills?

I live in Florida and found a listing online about purebred Australian Shepherd puppies for sale in Alabama. I contacted the lady and set up a time/date to buy a puppy. She told me that the puppy had her shots, and was extremely healthy. When I met her to buy the puppy she then informed me that the puppy was in fact 5 weeks old, and didn't have shots, I did not see a big problem with getting the shots in three weeks, so I went ahead and bought her. When the breeder handed me the puppy, I noticed the puppy had a lot of fleas, I paid for her and headed back to Florida, but during a rest stop I noticed she had cuts all over her and her gums and tongue were white. I took her to the animal hospital the morning I got home, and they had found out that she was severely anemic, blind, infested with worms and fleas, and may or may not have Parvo. I have put over $1000 into her, and she is still not getting better and I am out of money. Could I sue, or have the breeder pay for the vet bills?

A: Possibly. There are puppy lemon laws in FL and Alabama that may be applicable.
