Colorado Springs, CO asked in Traffic Tickets for Colorado

Q: I have a ticket in NC from 01 for driving w out of state expired license. Ive moved to CO, and need a DL. How to deal?

I am disabled, and was very sick right around the time I incurred the ticket, including an actual coma after an auto accident, and had no recall of receiving the ticket untill I was informed a day before I moved to Colorado..how can I take care of this, so I can get a DL..it is urgently needed.

A: This is a relatively simply matter. First you need to pay-off the NC ticket (and complete any classes if required). If NC put a hold on your record, you will need to resolve the matter fully before applying for a CO license. If you do not have a hold, you can apply for a CO license (note: this will NOT be a renewal/transfer application). I advise that you disclose the NC ticket if asked because intentional withholding of information will result in a denial of license in CO. Depending on the nature of the NC classification, CO may require additional driver's education certification.
