Solon, IA asked in Immigration Law for Iowa

Q: Traveling out of the country while in the process for Green Card?

Hello everyone, I have applied for green card in October 2015, I received my work authorization in November 2015. As of December 2, 2015 my case is ready to be scheduled for an interview. I check time frame processing for Des Moines, IA office and they currently work on cases from July 16th, 2015. My question is how long I have to wait approximately for my interview? Also I should go home in Europe this coming July and I'm not sure if my interview will happen before that, so what are my options if I want to travel? I know about that document that I can apply for to travel while I'm in the process but is that something that you would recommend and how secure is that? I'm full time employed here in the states so I can not risk to be hold on the airport or be returned to Europe for long period. Thanks in advance.

A: You just have to look at the visa bulletin for your country and match your priority date to find out how long it is going to take for you to get an interview. You can consider applying for an advance parole if you think the process might take longer than july, consult with an immigration attorney to help you with this process. Many immigration attorneys including me offer free consultations, make use of the consultations.

All the best.
